The incentives subsidizeenergy conservation and promote energy efficiency in each of the energy end-use sectors residential and commercial, industrial, and transportation and encouragesubstitution toward alternative energy technologies such as solar and wind power andelectricity produced from alternative energy resources such as biomass. The conservationand efficiency tax incentives are in the form of nonrefundable tax credits for energy-saving capital goods. In addition, some of the tax credits are intended to directly reducethe quantity of harmful greenhouse gases linked to possible global climate change.
