Geographical indications are important in internationaltradebecausetheyarecommerciallyvaluable. SomeEuropeananddevelopingcountrieswant to establish tougher restrictions and limits on the use of geographical names forproducts, while the United States and associated countries argue that the existing levelof protection of such terms is adequate.
