Ivo Sanader, who succeeded Tudjman as HDZparty leader and refashioned the party along more moderate, less nationalistic lines,became Prime Minister of a minority government in December 2003. The Sanadergovernmentwilllikelyfacesignificantdomesticchallengesaswellascloseinternationalscrutiny over its performance in a number of issue areas.
