There are no reliable estimatesof the number of people killed as a result of the conflict. The government of Sudan hasdenied or severely restricted access to relief officials in Darfur. Some observers andU.S. officials estimate that between 10,000-30,000 people have been killed over the pasttwelve months. U.S. officials assert that an estimated 320,000 could die by the end of2004 irrespective of the international response.
