In exchange for protection, advice, technology, and armaments from the United States, the Saudi government has welcomed American investment in the kingdom and has served as a security and counterterrorism partner. Since 2015, Saudi leaders domestic and foreign policy decisions have renewed calls from some U.S. leaders for a reassessment of long-standing bilateral ties.
