2、reaty, signed in 1953 at the end of the Korean War, commits the United States to help South Korea defend itself, particularly from North Korea (officially the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, or DPRK). South Korean troops have fought in U.S.-led conflicts, including in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghan
3、istan. The United States includes South Korea under its “nuclear umbrella,” otherwise known as extended deterrence.
